Ask yourself this: do you really think God would create a talentless creature?
With a knowledge of God’s love for you, would you still think of yourself as useless?
God had a purpose for each of his creations and He did not let anyone come down to this earth just for the sake of taking up space. We had the opportunity to come down because we had, and still have, a purpose: growth.
We have the chance to grow in knowledge in all aspects of education and life. Of course, if God only wanted to teach us subjects, he probably could have just sent out a PowerPoint or Quizlet. We also came here to improve spiritually–to become like Christ.
Now, we did not pop onto this earth with no resources. God wasn’t going to send us down and say, “Okay kids, good luck. I’m sure you’ll figure out how to do things on your own–maybe…just don’t let anything eat you.”
He provided each individual with at least one talent.
Yet, so many believe they do not have any.
As I said before, God loves His children, He did not set us up to be “useless” or “talentless.” He set us up to be magnificent.
Some may realize they can do great things, but strictly try to stay humble and refuse to admit to accomplishing anything.
Humility does not indicate that a person rejects that they have talents. Humility indicates that each person should remember where those talents came from.
For not one person on this earth received or expanded their talents by themselves. It came with help. Of course, God helps us, but it does not only come from Him. It comes from family, the sacrifices they make. It comes from friends, the support they give. It comes from mentors, the advice they supply. It comes from teachers, the guidance they show.
Recognizing the different aspects that give you talent, that is humility.
So do not hesitate to say you can do something. Do not even hesitate to say you can do it well.
Even more so, do not hesitate to use your talents.
Hiding talents can only cause detriment to the person covering them and the people who could benefit from their use.
In Matthew 25:25, 28-29
“And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine…Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.”
This scripture story talks about three servants, one who was given five talents, the other who received two, and the last who had one. The first two servants went out and doubled their amount of talents, but the last hid his in the earth. Therefore, because of the lack of use and appreciation, the Lord took his talent and gave it to someone who would utilize it.
We should not hide our talents. Take advantage of the unique, or even not so unique, things you can do. Use what you have been blessed with, and you will be able to do even more–practice makes perfect, right?
Hide what you have been blessed with, bury it into the earth, and it will be a most difficult task to dig up and find it again.
We all have talents. Use them. Have the joy that comes along with performing them. Remember how they came to you, how they grew. Remember you are not here to be useless. Remember, you can be magnificent.
