Too many people do not realize their worth. Too many people do not
know their value. Too many.
The more I prepare to go to Canada, the more I realize this. I thought
about how this could be, when another creature with a similar
circumstance of potential came to mind.
A caterpillar.
A caterpillar is a caterpillar.
That is how I can assume it sees itself.
A caterpillar is a caterpillar.
It eat leaves. It scooches around. A caterpillar is a caterpillar.
Each day the same, each choice based on its knowledge: a caterpillar
is a caterpillar.
A person, familiar with caterpillars, can look at it and see it as it
is: a fuzzy, inching around, leaf eating insect. At the same time, a
person familiar with caterpillars also sees all it can become.
Though the tender bug may not realize it, a greater destiny awaits.
Something changes.
The caterpillar’s skin begins to molt. A cocoon begins to shape.
Inside, an incredible transformation occurs. Muscle and tissue
tears—ripped and abandoned for something greater. Wings and antennas
develop.
A caterpillar is no longer a caterpillar.
A butterfly emerges with a different, new purpose to life. It spreads
its wings and it is beautiful.
We are like caterpillars. We look at ourselves and see how we are now.
Maybe we get through life only inching around, accepting this limited
view.
But there is someone who is familiar with us. More than familiar with us.
God knows us.
He sees all we have done and were, all we are now, but importantly, He
sees all we can become. He sees all He wants to bless us with.
He sees us as we truly are—a child of God.
He is our Heavenly Father. And whether we are a caterpillar or a
butterfly, He loves us.
If we turn to Him, we can undergo a transformation. Just like the
caterpillar, it may be complex and it will likely be difficult, but it
is worth it.
Because after it all, we emerge changed for the better. Our purpose
will differ from before and it may seem new, but it simply is not.
Not to Him.
For God has always seen what we can become, what we can do, and He always will.
We can know our value and our worth. Just ask Him.
