Finishing My Second Book; A Few Favorite Quotes

If I could end my university experience in any chaotic way, it would be this way. Soon, I’ll submit my draft of my first novel to a writer’s conference I will attend this summer. By the end of April, I will have the first (and hopefully second) draft of my second novel done. This, on top of reading 15+ manuscripts a week, has me busy.

I don’t want you all to think I’ve disappeared or have nothing left to share. One of my top goals is still to help light up your day. So, while I’m pressed for time, I think I can make enough room to share five of my favorite quotes with you.

“I’m not ready for the future,” I said.

“By the time you’re ready, it’ll be the past.”

My dad

This quote feels relevant again. I first said this when I was near the end of high school. When my dad gave his witty reply, a shift happened within me. I don’t know how to explain it. I just stopped worrying.

You can look up at the sky and see the stars, but not the light.

The Eagles

I can’t explain this one either. All I can say is that we could open our eyes more.

Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly and get on with improving your other innovations.

Steve Jobs

I apply this to life and all my goals. As you strive for something, you’ll trip, and you might even fall. That’s okay. We’re a lot better off to get up, take care of what we need to, and move on to other improvements.

When you’ve worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you. You reach back and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed

Michelle Obama

I try my best to remember others. Giving back isn’t something I’ll do in the future. It’s something I can do now because, trust me, I’ve walked through plenty of doorways.

To live would be an awfully big adventure

Peter Pan

Sometimes I forget how amazing it is to have a body, let alone one that functions and lives in a world with so much creativity and development. When I stop stressing, I start living, and then the adventure begins.

Next weekend I will be watching the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ semi-annual general conference. There will be enough talks to fill blogs worth of inspiration, so I won’t be posting. If you want to join me, here’s the link to watch.
